Why did I get a receipt for a pack of gum?!

Question: Why did I get a receipt for a pack of gum?
I went to a duane reade and bought a pack of gum.
The cashier tried to give me a receipt and I said no thanks
they replied " You have to take it"
I asked why and they replied: 'store policy'

Why do i have to keep the receipt, its not like im going to return the empty pack of gum

Answers:

Most registers automatically print out the receipt, and sometimes they may have a policy to take it because they don't want to keep it because it would clutter and it also may have information on it if you didn't pay with cash. If you did, the guy may have been new or they may have had some other weird reason.

Lmao all stores have different policies or perhaps he was a new guy and didn't know what to do xD

Store policy..just take it and throw it away when you get outside..geez..=)

some stores if u don't get a receipt then u get some thing off the price
