How much acreage would be required to sustain a family of four?!

Question: How much acreage would be required to sustain a family of four?
I am curious how much acreage one would need to grow enough food to feed a family of four, assuming that each year's harvest lasted the year. This also includes raising of animals, such as milk & beef cows, chickens, and swine. Would doing this be more economical than buying from a grocery store?
Thanks!

4 acres !

YOu can grow all your food in a very small lot- vegetables are the way to go.
Potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, beans, there isn't much you can't grow, and the vines= peaches, plums , apples.

Buying living creatures to chop up and eat is a wasteful practice, they take a LOT of land, energy and effort, just to satisfy a mouth.

I have a half acre but my neighbor he has ±20 acres and has 15 - 20 sheep both for their wool and meat and I see a few cows every so often - he has no visible garden
He is single but has renters

It takes a unique family to adventure into sufficiency
