i need help from someone who knows about wine!?!

Question: I need help from someone who knows about wine!?
I have two questions: 1. I'm looking for a good red wine to give a a gift. I'm looking to spend about 50 dollars. This is a thank you to someone that I know has lots of wine and cheese parties, so I need a GOOD wine, I don't mind spending money as long as I know it will taste good.

2. I had this one amazing bottle a year and a half ago but unfortunately I don't remember the name. It was a California Red but it tasted just like cherries. I think it was 2006 or 2007 and now it retails for about 90+ dollars, when it was first released it retailed for about 30. Does anyone have any suggestions of wine that would fit this description ? Thank you so much

I'm so no expert at wine, but $50.00 is a nice amount to give as a thank you! I usually limit out at $30.00 for nice gifts!!

I always visit my local wine store, as I prefer regional wines (WA State).

Good Luck!

I wish I could answer myself but I'm a whiskey connoisseur :). KL has excellent descriptions with unprejudiced prices. I bet they have something something similar to the one mentioned above. If not try bevmo.com. Hope this helps.

For $50, If I was getting a red, it would be a Barolo. I like Bussia Soprana

And Chris (above me) means Chateauneuf-du-Pape. I agree that this is a good wine. One of my favorites is Domaine de Marcoux

Chateau nurve du pape its french and its best in your price range nice rich burgandy hmmmmm i really miss it because i stop drinking last year......enjoy

From your description my guess would be Clos du Bois.... either a Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Perhaps the Clos du Bois Briarcrest Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 which I think you can buy for around $44. This Clos du Bois wine has gotten consistently high marks (in the 90's) from Wine Spectator and other wine magazines/publications.

The 2006 last time I tasted it was a wonderful Inky ruby red in color, with complex aromas of cassis, blackberry essence, licorice, and lavender with powerful notes of cedar and brown spice.
On the palate, the wine delivers powerfully rich black fruit flavors and supple, structured tannins before a lengthy finish.

One of my favourite American red wines, great with grilled steak or roast lamb. But equally very drinkable on it's own. Don't buy too many bottles or you may not get rid of your guests.
