Someone beat me to my dream : (?!
I mean this was exactly what I wanted to do! I am about to enter college as a freshman at the moment. I will be studying Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Florida. Since I was little I wanted to pursue a career in cooking, but I did not want to give up a good education (since I make good grades in school). So I decided I would do both. Now apparently someone else did that.
I feel like someone beat me to my own goal.
Man, I look up to him so much now. He did what I want to do. And apparently the cookbook is revolutionary (it costs $625 and is high quality).
He well-educated, rich, and good at cooking, and I feel bad because that would be the kind of thing I would want to do - create a massive cookbook with information about the science behind cooking. He has millions of dollars of resources, too.
I feel like he beat me to my dream of making a lot of money doing engineering and then retiring from it and following a career in cooking.
Sigh. At least I was not off to think it would be a good thing to do. I just do not know what to do now that my goal has already been shattered.
What should I do?
Can I still pursue my goal of engineering and cooking?

Nathan Myrhvold wrote a book about what Alton Brown has been doing for years. Don't feel bad that he did what you wanted to do, just continue your idea, and make your book that much better than his.
You are just jealous. You should be encouraged to know that it is possible to accomplish your dream. If you want to accomplish something that no one has done before try becoming an astronaut and colonizing another planet or the moon. You are still young so you should be able to set as many goals for yourself as you want.
You just find a way to put a different spin on it and go for it. And make it more affordable!
