How come truffle chocolates dont have any truffles?!

Question: How come truffle chocolates dont have any truffles?
I've always eaten different kinds of "truffle" chocolates but I
still don't know how a truffle truly tastes like. Anyone know
of a chocolate with real truffles and not incredibly small amounts of it?

truffles are called truffles bc their shape is similar to the bitter can or semi bitter fresh truffle that goes for 500 euro per kg. some chocolate truffles (esp. white) use truffle oil to add flavor

I agree with the other answerer that chocolate truffles are only called that because they resemble the highly-prized fungus truffles. I've never come across any chocolate truffles that contain actual truffle, but truffles (the fungus kind) really lend themselves more to savory dishes rather than sweets. The best way I can describe their flavour is like a super mushroom, really earthy and intense. You might even say they have elements of sweatsocks, but in a good, perfumy, pungent way.

Probably the best way to get an idea of their flavour without actually buying a truffle (which, of course, are very expensive) is to get some truffle oil. Truffle oil is simply olive oil or any other fairly neutral-flavoured oil that has been infused with bits of white or black truffle. It comes in small bottles available at most good grocery stores, but it should never be used for cooking. Instead, just drizzle it over whatever food you want to bring the truffle flavour to. Try it over a little plain pasta first, and that will give you a good starting point. Remember: it's pretty pungent, so a little goes a long way.

Bon appetit!
