Why do I love sushi (salmon, crab, tuna, surf clam) and HATE mackerel?!

Question: Why do I love sushi (salmon, crab, tuna, surf clam) and HATE mackerel?
Is it strange to say that I love fish but hate the more "fishy" taste of some?
I will eat any kind of sushi, including raw oysters, but HATE!! mackerel.
It seems to taste almost metallic to me.

Answers:

Mackerel, especially smoked, does have a pungent fishy taste..and as you say a metallic taste, probably down to it being an oily fish, so the flavour seems more intense and lingers longer on the palate. Do you like smoked fish as a rule, or is that the problem?

Personally love sushi and sashimi, but raw oysters? Bleugh, like swallowing someone else's tepid phlegm...

If you hate mackerel, but want something a little less fishy, try Aji or Sanma.
Best when fresh and they don't have that dockside stink that some mackerel do.

I prefer buri or chutoro when making sushi at home, as demonstrated in my latest video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7mG-t_XL…

you just have different taste in certain fish thats all. like some people would love catfish but hate salmon and think its fatty tasting. I love salmon but not a big fan of catfish.

Maybe because it's so oily? I LOVE fish and seafood and shellfish but not keen on mackerel, just because it tastes too greasy for my liking x

becauseu like to eat the food that has parasites in them
