When can I ice cupcakes?!

Question: When can I ice cupcakes?
I am making cupcakes for my sons birthday party. we live in CT and the party is in NH. the morning of the party we are going to a children's music class and leaving from there to drive three hours to the party. My question is- If I ice the cupcakes with buttercream on friday, will they last in the car from 9am- about 1:30 when we arrive (party is at 3 and I would like them displayed). or should I just ice them when I get there?

either way will work i have done it both ways doing them there will give them a fresh and neat appearance

If there's any chance to take the icing with you then ice later, do that.
Even if the cupcakes were fully cooled (so icing won't melt & run), they may get jostled during the transport.
It might even be more fun, having someone help you at that time.

ice them when you get there because the car holds natural heat and your icing WILL melt and it WILL be a disaster lol .. just ice them when you get there so it will be fresh

ice them when you get there but keep the frosting in a cool bag as well. good luch

When it snows!

How long it will takes to ice them? you may try using a coolbox
