Is peanut butter considered junk food?!

Question: Is peanut butter considered junk food?
like a peanut butter and honey on whole wheat

Answers:

It isn't, but it SHOULD BE, Chase. Most of the commercial peanut butters are loaded with SUGAR in addition to peanuts, salt, and hydrogenated vegetable oils. Companies like Jif and Skippy add the sugar to make their products tasty and appealing to kids, which in turn causes many children to crave the sugar fix that they will get from eating a peanut butter sandwich. Adding in a simple sugar like honey only makes things worse, because honey is pure fructose. For kids with diabetes or with insulin resistance problems, eating such products is tantamount to eating poison. It makes kids FAT, and FAT KIDS GROW UP to become FAT ADULTS. Just because something claims to have been made with whole wheat doesn't mean it's healthy either. There are lots of bread companies which use sugar or honey in their products as a sweetener, and this drives up both the calorie count and the carbohydrate levels of such products. Even so called "organic" or "natural" peanut butter is FULL of added sugar and salt, which NO KID NEEDS.

I have a degree in dietetics.

Yes and no. Peanut butter is only considered junk food when you combine it with ice cream and chocolate. Peanut butter is a replacement for protein, and when eaten in moderation, it's quite healthy. Try eating the natural peanut butter or reduced fat if you are worried about calorie intake. In college I used to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on oatmeal wheat bread and eat it with apple slices.

Health benefits
Peanut butter may protect against a high risk of cardiovascular disease due to high levels of monounsaturated fats and resveratrol; butter prepared with the skin of the peanuts has a greater level of resveratrol and other health-aiding agents.[5] Peanut butter (and peanuts) provide protein, vitamins B3 and E, magnesium, folate, dietary fiber, arginine,[6] and high levels of the antioxidant p-coumaric acid.

it depends. it can be. but i see it more as something healthy... but healthy as in nuts. like they're ood no and again, but its not good to haev too much.

and like the above coment said... if you combine it with like ice cream.. then its more considered junk food. but in small amounts, like on toast.. then its fine and not considered junk food!

No it isn't. It is high in Calories though, so go easy on it.

No. It is good for you. Just don't over do it.
