If by empty calorie you mean something that does not deliver much nutrition. Pretty much I'd have to say yes. They're typically made with rice that has had the bran stripped so there really isn't all that much fiber. If you're eating a flavored variety, then it likely has artificial colors and flavors along with sweeteners added.

You'd be much better off to go with a wasa cracker or rye crisp cracker. These have more fiber and whole grain.

If you really like the rice cakes a lot and you don't overdo it then no problem, just be sure to balance it with some more nutritious food such as veggies or fruit.



Sorry, nothing is empty calories. The closest thing "they say" is celery since they have so little calories, and by the time you finished chewing, you're burned the calories anyways.

For dieting, the only good thing about rice cakes is that they're filling, have fiber and low or no fat. But they have carbs, so if you don't burn them off, they'll turn into fat.
