my fish tasted a bit like mold?!

Question: My fish tasted a bit like mold?
i brought some fish battered fillets, and i ate one and it tasted like mold. I know it wasn't the batter because i brought some fish a few months back , fresh with skin and everything, and that tasted like mold too. They were two separate types of fish, one was rainbow trout and the other some kind of Japanese fish. What could it be?

Answers:

Some fish do taste a little earthy... Not mouldy exactly, just a little bottomeof-the-pond-ish. Plaice can taste quite strongly like this becasue they live and feed on the sea bed. Carp is another one because it lives and feeds in muddy ponds. Does not matter if they are from the ocean or sweet water, it can happen although some varieties are more likely to have this taste than others. Perhaps you should stick to white meat and/or smoked fish?

Fresh fish tends to have a much better flavour than fish that has been frozen
