The fresh ones or the dried ones?

I've only tried fresh dates once, and they were sort of astringent and.. Not that good. Like a persimmon that isn't quite ripe (I guess the date might not have been ripe!). It tasted mellow and sweet too.. Comparable to honeydew melon I guess.
DRIED dates, on the other hand, are delicious :D really sweet. Your friends think you're weird because they arent familiar with dates/don't eat them. :)

they really are a natures candy along with figs. So sweet and good. You are not weird. Your friends need to try them before judgiing you.

Not really, I think they are poisonous to be honest. I remember a part in the Indiana Jones movie where this monkey ate a poinon date and died from it. So I wouldn't eat them.
