What foods should you eat if you can't keep food down?!

Question: What foods should you eat if you can't keep food down?
If you're sick and can't keep food down without vomiting it up, are there any specific foods that stay down? Or speed the recovery?

It will depend on the illness, but soup and toast is generally accepted as the best.

If you are recovering from a stomach virus or food poisoning, solid food is not your main priority for recovering, but rather you should focus more on your hydration. Obviously, drink at least 1 L of water a day while recovering, but the most import point is to also take in electrolytes with the water. The easiest way to do this is with gatorade, but I prefer Pedialite, its gatorade made for infants and its loaded with vitamins and electrolytes. If it can save babies from dehydration, it can save anyone. haha. Good luck and I wish you a speedy recovery partner.

First, liquids are more important than food. Vomiting is significant ... but if you have also have diarrhea you should specifically take the drug Immodium in liquid form (or it's generic equivalent) for the diarrhea.
That said, there is a dietary guideline that is recommended in these cases. It is referred to as the B.R.A.T diet.
It is ...
Banana
Rice
Applesauce
Toast

That, and water.

if nothing is staying down==limit yourself to water--staying hydrated is the most important thing right now-give your stomach a rest---then, when you think you can tolerate it-try the broth, soup, --keep it bland and easy to digest...the brat diet==bananas, rice, apples (suggest applesauce here) tea and toast (un-buttered)

take it easy-take it slow--only put in what you can handle-you are trying to stay hydrated, so ending up throwing up is not good....feel better!

Applesauce is good because it has pectin in it. Dry toast, tea without milk in it, mint tea with a small amount of sugar in it is good. Saltine crackers. I do not think soup is good if it is greasy unless it is homemade soup. Maybe just broth with saltines would be good.

you stay on the brats diet bananas rice applesause i dont remember what the others stand for light foods that are good on your stomach. need dinner? applesause h2o and grahm crackers XD oh yeah s is soup

My sourse? My mother.

Not that I know of, but I work in a long term health care center. We give people suffering from such symptoms a BRAT diet, which consists of banana, rice (plain), apple juice, toast and tea.

Ginger ale will settle your stomach but you should wait a few hours before trying solid foods. After that try some oat meal or a banana.

Chicken broth.. Ginger ale. Saltines. Sherbet - frozen. Popsicles
