Is it safe to snack on raw cookie dough?!

Question: Is it safe to snack on raw cookie dough?
I like to eat those Pillsbury Holiday Sugar cookies when their unbaked. I only eat like two or three a day, but is it okay to be doing this?

Answers:

Hi Lauren,

The Pillsbury cookie dough is made safely with pasteurized eggs or pasteurized liquid egg products and can be consumed raw safely. Many commercially available cookie dough products are made with these ingredients. Always avoid eating raw egg cookie dough though, as they can serve as sources of harmful bacteria, including Salmonella, which can cause serious illness. Make sure they are pasteurized always!

Best2u,
:))

Information on Salmonella:

Q. What is Salmonella?
A. Salmonella is a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacilli that can cause diarrheal illness in humans. They are microscopic living creatures that pass from the feces of people or animals to other people or other animals.

The Salmonella family includes over 2,300 serotypes of bacteria which are one-celled organisms too small to be seen without a microscope. Two types, Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Typhimurium are the most common in the United States and account for half of all human infections. Strains that cause no symptoms in animals can make people sick, and vice versa. If present in food, it does not usually affect the taste, smell, or appearance of the food. The bacteria live in the intestinal tracts of infected animals and humans.

Salmonella bacteria have been known to cause illness for over 100 years. They were discovered by an American scientist, Dr. Daniel E. Salmon.

All information I have found states the same thing. Eggs are generally safe and I usually rinse them in the shell so there is another layer of protection because they are cleaned before reaching the market (at least in the USA).
