is it safe to use eggs that have been in the fridge if the date on them is the 7th of feb 2011?!

Question: Is it safe to use eggs that have been in the fridge if the date on them is the 7th of feb 2011?
Answers:

Put one egg in a glass of water...if it sinks to the ground, it's fresh. A spoiled one would be filled with fermentation gas and therefore float.

Absolutely. In fact, presuming your refrigerator is between 33 and 38 degrees, eggs can be held even longer past the date on the carton, furthermore, older eggs are the best eggs for hard cooking. If you find yourself with a carton of eggs 2 or 3 weeks past the date, hard cook them and make deviled eggs or egg salad.

i hate these questions, cause it depends on that actual food, the only way you can find out is by cracking it , even though they should been fine, i've used eggs 3 weeks after best before, remember, best before is a guildine so the big old shops don't get sued, if something past it, doesn't mean you need to throw it away soon as.

Yes. The date on them is their sell-by date. If you ever have a question about whether an egg might be rotten or no longer usable, draw a bowl of water and drop the whole egg (uncooked and in its shell, just straight from the carton) into the bowl of water. If it sinks, it's good. If it floats, it's rotten and no longer usable. Toss it.

if you notice on your eggs it will say BB 7/02/2011 well the BB stands for best before which means that after this date supposedly they wont taste as good but they are fine they will be ok for weeks after that date and like that other bloke says simply check it when you crack it if your not happy then throw it but believe they will be fine

A chef gave me this tip years ago; to see if your eggs fresh or not place it into a bowl of cold water,if it floats throw it away if it sinks its ok.(also check to see how long it takes to sink.i do but i am fussy.

lower them in water, if they float or take ages to sink, then, dont use, but, if they sink to bottom then theyre ok .

probably not considering its 12 days after the expiration date

Do you realise that the was a time when people did not have fridges, and sell by dates didn't exist?

yes
