Why is a chilli called such?!
Why is a Chilli called that when it's damn hot and not Chilly?
Answers:
'Chilly' as in cold is an old English word deriving from various old European sources (as most of our words do).
'Chili' peppers are a native American fruit with a native American name going all the way back to Aztec civilization.
The two words are not at all related - they just happen to sound similar.
>You got it backwards, you should say "I am hot when I am not." Therefore, chili means hot not cold. Got it?
Because it contains chile or chili peppers.
