Well you can eat the yolk only, though your direction is wrong (as far as I know).
My way would be different; first you make a small whole in the uncooked chicken egg, small enough to pour out this-then pour out the white/clear "thingy" out-then as soon as you've done it, the only part left inside the egg is the yolk. That's how I would do it and it works.
