How do I put out a chip-pan fire?!

If you haven't got a matching tight fitting lid for the pan, you should use a thick hand towel to smother it.
Do not put in the sink to fill with cod water as that will make it worse
Do not try to carry outside as you may slop some burning oil over the floor as you may slip. You may also slop the pan over yourself.
Never use more oil that will come up more than halfway, and don't overfill with food.
Check with your Fire Dept to see if the have any information on line.
