Butter or margarine- which do you think is worse? why?!

Question: Butter or margarine- which do you think is worse? why?
Margarine was invented by a chemist in 1969 after there was a prize for the development of a synthetic edible fat. It was first made with animal fat, but then started to get made with hydrogenated vegetable fats. But now, there is non-hydrogenated margarine which contains no trans fat. But margarine is still very unnatural.

Butter is much more natural, but contains a lot of saturated fat and cholesterol because it is an animal product.

Do you think that margarine is worse?

I don't feel that "natural" or "unnatural" are useful terms in discussing food. Asbestos is sourced in nature, as are bee and rattlesnake venom, but we don't imagine that they are necessarily safer than any man-made substance. That said, I think that butter is the least evil of spreadable fat products. I have no science to back that up, it's just what tastes best to me. I don't use butter at home. Olive oil is just as suitable for scrambling eggs and spreading on bread.

This question isn't easily answerable because "margarines" are nowadays all kinds of "spreads" and very different from each other--some are made from unhealthy ingredients, some are from quite healthy ones. The old "oleo margarine" was one of the worse ones.

I also agree that just because something is "natural" that doesn't necessarily make it healthy, and there are all kinds of "natural" too.

You didn't even mention the stearic acid argument about why butter might be okay.

I think margarine is the worse one because it is unnatural and it has been proved to cause abdominal cancer, while butter is still contains saturated fat and cholestrol it is a natural fat which tastes better (in my opinion) and it does not cause any serious medical complications.

Of course, eating butter in moderation is the key! Some people get heart attacks for soaking all the food they eat in butter..... or they die from other reasons...

I think you can come up of a few right now..... lol :D

they both have their good points and bad points.

I like butter because it has two ingredients: Cream and salt.

Margarine has too many ingredients and has been over manufactured.

Butter has more saturated fats but used in moderation won't kill you.

I use olive oil and butter in cooking. Margarine in some baking
