Why is it considered socially unacceptable to eat dog?!

Question: Why is it considered socially unacceptable to eat dog?
What's worse about that than chomping on a cow? It's not like we go out and steal someones pet for soup.

Yes, I have tried dog. It was nothing spectacular.

Answers:

That is an interesting question. I think because humans have turned dogs into companions over the last couple of thousand years (like horses?), we consider it taboo. Although I have not eaten it and I have dogs as pets, I agree with you....in theory....I wouldn't eat one of my own!

First, the meat of most carnivorous mammals is unpalatable, and not economical to raise as a food animal. Likewise wolf, wolverine, lions and other wild great cats, and to some degree bear meat are avoided as long as herbivore meat is available. As such, dog is a meat of last resort in areas stricken with extreme poverty.
Second, it is forbidden under Jewish and Muslim dietary law, most likely because the ancients observed that dogs are scavengers who will happily eat garbage, rotting kills left by other predators, and even the bodily wastes of other animals.
Third, as domesticated dogs are so sensitive and responsive to subtle human emotions, humans tend to bond with them emotionally far beyond the degree that we do with traditional food animals.

A dog is a man's best friend. Eating a dog is like eating your/his/her/their best friend.

Why would you want to do that?

Besides, i dont know any place in the world the raises "dog farms" for food. The idea of it is cruel enough.

Many places it's considered taboo.

a dog waz made as a pet not food
