Can I use one of these vinegars instead of cider?!

Question: Can I use one of these vinegars instead of cider?
I've a recipe that calls for cider vinegar but I only have white rice vinegar, red wine vinegar, and balsamic vinegar. Can I use one of these instead?

Answers:

You could use any of them except maybe the balsamic. It really depends on what you're making and how rare your balsamic is

The rice wine will have the mildest, almost sweet, flavor

The red wine will be closest to the cider vinegar but it also contains color so that may be something to consider

The balsamic, as you no doubt know, is thicker, dark and has a slightly sweet-acidic flavor.

If you're making a dressing, the rice wine and red wine would be 'safe'. If you use the balsamic, the dressing could be very interesting and a new favorite.

Could be that your recipe calls for that apple flavour then you do need the cider vinegar
if not then choose your favourite
Balsamic not a good idea as strong flavour unless it's a salad dressing your making
Try the vinegar and see which you think will not mask your other ingredients
I love raspberry vinegar and just been given some champagne vinegar but not tried that yet
Good luck with your dish sure it will come out fine

Yes, but I would think about the item that you are making first to decide which one it is for. Rice wine vinegar would be good for Asian dishes, or fish. Balsamic is really good in most main dishes, salad dressings and desserts too- probably your best bet. Red wine vinegar is best is salad dressings and pasta dishes.

I would probably use the rice vinegar.
