Can I still ripen my avocado?!

Question: Can I still ripen my avocado?
I kept it in the fridge overnight and cut it, then realized it wasn't ripe. I put lemon juice on the exposed part but now I want to know if I can still ripen it. Can I? And how? I have it in a plastic bag on the counter right now but I'm afraid it'll go bad that way. Or should I just refrigerate it and call it a lost cause?

The Right Way to Ripen
Did you know that no Avocados ripen on trees? It's actually the harvesting (picking) action that triggers the ripening process!
To take some of the 'guess work' out of ripening for consumers, many wholesalers ensure that Australian Avocados are delivered to retail stores about a day or two before they are ripe.
To ripen an Avocado, place the fruit in a plain brown paper bag and store at room temperature until ready to eat. This will usually take two to five days. Including an apple or banana in the bag accelerates the process, as these fruits give off ethylene gas - a ripening agent.
Ripe fruit can be refrigerated until eaten, however, not for more than two or three days.
There is no quicker way to ripen Avocados. A natural fruit requires a natural process.

Try it in a bag, it still may work

You have exposed it to the air. Is it in a plastic bag so that it can't become contaminated by bugs or other nasty bits? It will ripen in the plastic bag faster than in a paper bag. put a slice of apple in the plastic bag with it and the gas from the apple will hasten the ripening.

It'll be OK if you put it in a paper bag on a warm ledge somewhere. When you want to eat it, just cut the browned edges off.
