Answers:

Go to your nearest local store, and tell the person at the till roughly how many junk food items are sold per week/day, I'd say they have records on that kinda of stuff :) Especially since they scan the ID code into a computer

I hope you have a good definition of what is meant by "junk". That is a very subjective term and there is no way you are going to find any real data. I would start by finding out what is and isn't considered junk. For example, gas stations sell candy bars, chips, crackers, nuts, cookies, hot dogs, sandwiches, ice cream, sodas, coffee, tea, beer, water, etc. Is all of that junk? or everything except water? Sandwiches? Nuts? Crackers are usually fortified with b vitamins. Does that make them less of a junk food?

Some people might consider pretzels healthy but I would include them as junk. Energy bars are also junk to me. I think they are glorified candy bars. They are frequently higher in calories than a candy bar.

I hope this isn't a school assignment. It sounds like a nightmare.

I can't believe all the idiotic answerers telling you to ask a store manager. He is going to look at you like a mental patient. It's not like "junk food" is something defined by the USDA.

depends on the city (with its economy and rate of unemployment
)and if its the beginning of the month or the end ( food stampers get their $ at the beginning towards the middle of the month)
depends on the size of the store

Call the distributing center for any grocery store chain and ask how many boxes/cases of junk food gets shipped, every day, to your local store. That may help.

Far, far too many is all I can say.
Go down to your local store and ask them, their results will be far more reliable than anything off the internet.

go find a local store and ask!
