Is the Supermarket fruit that is already prepared safe to eat?!

Question: Is the Supermarket fruit that is already prepared safe to eat?
The Supermarket cuts up fruit and makes a fruit salad and have it sealed in a container to be sold. So in other words, the fruit is already cut up and ready to eat. These are fresh fruit (no preservatives) that were peeled and sliced into bite-size pieces...and put in a clear plastic container. Are they safe to eat?

Answers:

If it's at a supermarket, it's fine. I worked in a grocery stores for many years and most of them are safe with food handling since they do have regular health inspections. It's no more harmful than eating at a restaurant. If you're truly concerned, then don't buy it. Buy the whole fruit and cut it up yourself.

If you are in the US, then all companies involved in getting fruit from tree, all the way to you, have to follow guidelines set by the FDA, health department, and who knows who else. I'm sure the list is long because it just takes one mistake, one death, and a company is out tons of money because they get sued, and their name is smudged because everybody hears about it so nobody will trust to buy from them again. Yes company's can and do try to find loopholes, corruption does exist, but if you are buying a fruit cup from a large, well known chain, eat it and enjoy it without a care in the world. It's your responsibility to look at the expiration date and keep it properly refrigerated if you don't plan to eat it right away, so if you left it out for 3 days and died of salmonila, that's your fault alone. But if you see some random guy on the side of the road selling cut fruit, well, nobody knows how safe that is.

Anything that an approved civilised supermarket sells will have passed health checks. No worries.
