Okay, well, that's hard because so many of what we think of as American dishes were influenced by other cultures. But Potato Chips would be one form of that food we created. Though I think they are called crisps in other countries. We didn't invent ice cream but did change the way it was made and served, "soft serve" style was created here, and the ice cream cone. I can think of several dishes that seem iconic of American culture to me. Pizza (i know it is made everywhere, but you have to admit we really ran with that one) Gumbo, Chili, Barbeque Beef, Pork and Chicken, Cornbread... I know lobster and crab, and other seafood, was considered poor man's food, but now there are areas in the States famous for those, and they can be very expensive. So, lobster bisque, crab cakes, oyster soup, clam chowder...
