addicted to carbonated drinks?!

Question: Addicted to carbonated drinks?
I find myself wanting to have a better diet, but i find myself addicted to any carbonated drinks. If it's fizzy I love drinking it (something about the burning popping feeling of it) I just can't drink fruit juices or water because it just doesn't taste right, I have been brought up drinking fizzy drinks though so I am just thinking maybe it's habit? I've sat down with my fiance and I think we're going to go cold turkey

However i was wondering is there any healthy drinks out there that fizz? It's unlikely but if you don't ask you never know right?

Answers:

Firstly, I am EXACTLY the same. I will easily get through a 2l bottle of cola a day.

I want to give you a warning about diet drinks- often instead of sugar they use aspartame to sweeten it. It isnt officially recognised but as it happened to me I am convinced it is dangerous.

I am an averagely healthy 19 year old male. went on a diet decided to drink diet drinks- my blood pressure went from an ok 132/78 to a dangerous 178/83 and it was by pure luck that I found out about it at my doctors for a routine check up. I gave up salt etc. ate mega healthy and it stayed high.

I gave up diet drinks for one week and am now back down to normal.

As for giving the stuff up, I know its a bloody nightmare! I have tried to do it, I find as a student the best way to cut down is to tell myself i cant afford it!

Hope it goes well!

Personal Experience

Try pelegrino. It is sparkling mineral water. Try it with a bit of lemon or lime. Also unlike diet sodas pelegrino does not have sweet n low which is quite bad for you despite it having 0 calories.

I used to be addicted to sodas too. To be honest the first few weeks was torture getting off them (ive quit drugs and cigs before and soda was right up there) But eventually youll stop craving them and your body will thank you for it.

Also even though it does not fizz try iced tea. If its made right iced tea is quite a nice drink.

Maybe try adding seltzer or club soda to fruit juice. Do you consider diet soda unhealthy?

I drink seltzer - all the fizz, none of the calories

Good for you for getting away from those horrible drinks. I did a couple of years ago and now I can't even look at them without being disgusted. (I can drink ginger ale or sprite if I have to but none of the dark or bright colored ones) They are nasty and not worth the calories or the health risks.
In Canada we have some carbonated fruit juices that are sold in the grocery stores that are better than soda but still not great.
If I were you, I would wean myself off of them by adding it to fruit juice (2 parts juice, 1 part club soda or ginger ale)
If it's the caffeine that you're addicted to, switch to coffee or tea. At least there are some health benefits to them and they won't rot your teeth and guts out because of all the sugar.

Good luck...seriously. I am always happy to hear of people making healthy life choices.
