Can you leave meat uncovered in the refrigerator?!

Question: Can you leave meat uncovered in the refrigerator?
I'm marinating steak.. the problem is I don't have any way to cover it.
I didn't realize that I was out of foil until it was to late?
Is this dangerous?
Ty.

Answers:

It's only dangerous if you leave it there too long or have a weak immune system (really weak). Marinades are inherently preservatives, so the meat will be fine; and as long as it is not in direct contact with other food (or in the fridge too long) it will be fine. I have left uncovered, marinating, meat in the fridge many times without ill effect. Besides, cross-contamination won't be prevented by foil if it happens; so if you have avoided it in the past...

You've eaten much worse without knowing it, I'm sure of that.

It will be fine.

Yes it is. It could contaminate something else, or something could contaminate that, or stink up the fridge.
Put it into a bowl and cover with a plate if you haven't got a container.
Foil and plastic wraps should never be used for this sort of thing, they are prone to leakage, always use some type of airtight container

It's going to be cooked anyhow, so it really doesn't make a difference. Just make sure it's on the bottom shelf, to reduce any spills onto vegetables and such.
