No! I think what you are referring to are QUATS (quaternium ammonium) compounds. These compounds are necessary in order to PREVENT the transmission of diseases in food handling and food service as well as food processing. Organic certification agencies (such as Oregon Tilth) recognize the fact that FOOD CONTACT SURFACES are a source of disease transmission between food and food contact surfaces and it is necessary to treat a food contact surface before food is placed upon it in order to prevent cross contamination (example, with Lysteria monocytogenes, a dangerous pathogenic bacteria, which causes pregnant women to miscarriage and young children to DIE. The food surface must be washed free and have a residual quat value of less than 5 ppm before organic food can be placed upon it. A tiny amount of residual quat may come in contact with the food - but the fact is, that just because a food is organic DOES NOT MEAN IT DOES NOT HAVE BACTERIA WHICH CAN AND DO KILL PEOPLE!

The use of quats are not allowed as sanitizing agents directly applied to the foods themselves.

The use of quats and other chemicals to prevent DEATH in human beings from consumption of contaminated foods will continue regardless of what some people might like otherwise.
