is canned mackerel cleaned, gutted and cooked before it is canned? what does it taste like?!

Question: Is canned mackerel cleaned, gutted and cooked before it is canned? what does it taste like?
Answers:

You really have to like fish because it is very smelly but very good! Worse to smell than sardines(I love sardines to!)
The cheaper cans will still have the skin and bones in it but it will cooked very well. It will fall apart when you take it from the can. It will have some of the fat in it to.
If you can find the can that has al that removed would be better. It doesn't bother me but I have been eating/cooking with it for yrs.
We love mackerel pattie also could use salmon

1 can of mackerel drained well
3 eggs beaten
1 caramelized or sauteed onion
salt
pepper
green onion tops chopped
good skillet
oil for frying
seasoned flour to roll the patties in(salt, pepper, paprika)
Mix all that in a bowl except the flour. Mix well with a fork. It will be sloppy but you should be able to make a lose patty with your hands about 1/2" thick, no to big so you can handle them without making a mess). Lay the patty in the flour(place flour in a flat bowl so you can dust the patty with it. Dust the patty's well with the flour, Heat skillet to med low with a little oil about 1/8" deep, lay several patties it in the heated oil fry on med low till brown then flip and brown the other side. Remember the fish & onions are already cooked so your just browning it but it will burn so don't turn it on high! Only turn once so wait till its firm and browned before flipping!
Here is how you can use the patties in a meal:

They are cleaned and gutted then are either smoked then canned, or just canned.

Read the label to see what type you have.

See the link canning here:-http://www.fao.org/wairdocs/tan/x5938e/x… mackerel

Yes it is. It would be pretty gross if they just threw whole, raw mackerel in there guts and all :)

It tastes kinda fishy, but not too bad. You gotta like fish to like canned mackerel.

Leaving the guts in fish or any thing for that matter for to long will ruin it.

It is cooked During the canning process.

I have nnever had it but yes it is.
