Why should you let food stand 2 minutes in the microwave before taking out?!

Question: Why should you let food stand 2 minutes in the microwave before taking out?
I see "LET STAND 2 minutes" marked on a lot of TV dinner packages when heating up TV dinners. It's usually the last step when heating up a TV dinner. What does this mean? (It usually states "CAREFULLY remove as PRODUCT WILL BE HOT" right underneath.) I don't ever wait for food to sit in the microwave after cooking and before taking it out. Is this important or something? I normally take food out as soon as the beeping noise on the microwave goes off. Is this okay to do? What do you recommend?

Microwaves don't radiate evenly all over the food. Some parts get hotter than others. There are 'hot spots'. This is why they make those little carousels to turn the food around. Some foods' instructions tell you to turn the food 90 degrees halfway through cooking, to even out the hot spots.

When the food is done cooking, letting it sit for a couple of minutes allows the temperatures to even out, so the temperature of the food is more uniform.

If the purpose was to let the food cool down, you would just not cook it as long. 8^)

Microwaved food can be extremely Hot and letting it rest serves two purposes

1) It can prevent a severe burn on those occassions when food can be much hotter than you would expect.

2) Microwave cooks food from the inside out, as other methods cook from the outside in. this can create unven cooking. letting the food rest can even out differences in tempertures.

The packaging is correct.... when cooking food in the microwave, you should let the food stand for at least 2 minutes. This lets the product temperature equalize. This is recommended by the FDA.

That isn't a dumb question, It was a great one, everyone has questions and sometimes you must ask the question "why?". It is probably because the food may be too hot to take out directly. :)

my heart :)

Because a microwave heats the food from the inside out.. It is very hot on the inside!! SO you need to let it stop the cooking process.=)

what a silly question
