What does "Organic" food mean?!

Question: What does "Organic" food mean?
Isn't all food organic? Isn't all food made from living organisms?

Answers:

Organic as far as agriculture does not mean living organism (nor does it mean that in Chemistry, in chem it means, basically, carbon based. Oil, for example is considered organic is the chemistry sense and oil certainly is not alive).

Organic is a farm management system that does not use synthetic (petroleum based) inputs, practices crop rotation and has soil management plans such as green manure, cover cropping and applying compost that not only stave off erosion but also build soil so any well managed Organic farm will have a soil net gain. Also Organic farms do not allow GMO's in any way shape or form.

I have been making my living farming sustainably for 17 years and have spent 8 years of my career running a certified organic farm

Simply stated, organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones.

The USDA National Organic Program (NOP) defines organic as follows:

Organic food is produced by farmers who emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water to enhance environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are given no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced without using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers made with synthetic ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation. Before a product can be labeled "organic," a Government-approved certifier inspects the farm where the food is grown to make sure the farmer is following all the rules necessary to meet USDA organic standards. Companies that handle or process organic food before it gets to your local supermarket or restaurant must be certified, too

It used to mean that the food was grown 'naturally', without artificial fertilizers or pesticides made from chemicals. (But you're exactly right--anything that grows in the ground is -organic- just by definition!)

Through the 60s and 70s organic food got more and more popular. The US govt., working for big food corporations, tried to dissuade people from wanting organic food. But they were unsuccessful. So what they did was to legally redefine the meaning of the word 'organic', to allow the big corporations to label their mass-produced groceries 'organic'.

its food that hasn't been chemically processed or that the living organism that it came from hasn't been fed vitamins or any growth enhancing chemicals.

EDIT 2:

umm my mind lol
