I eat rabbit.

In many Western nations, these animals are seen as domestic pets, and not as food.

I totally agree. I have eaten plenty of weird stuff in my life and I am always willing to try something before I judge. I think people who stick to the basic chicken beef etc. who then criticise people and say it's disgusting are being really hypocritical. Vegetarians like you have every right to criticise and I think you either eat meat and accept it or don't eat it and don't accept it. Don't be picky and hypocritical. The main reason I think they find it gross is because they are so used to eating the common animals that anything outside of this very condensed norm automatically becomes alien and people don't understand this. What people don't understand they are suspicious of so they judge. Also, some animals are "cute" household animals like dog yet they are eaten. They automatically link this to the familiar household pet and couldn't dream of eating it due to emotional attachment. However this is a huge misconception as dogs bred for eating are entirely different to domesticated animals and are piglike in looks and not at all cute. Cuter would be young lambs which everyone is comfortable with eating yet it is an innocent young sheep. Anyway thats my opinion on the matter however long winded it is. :)

That has often been a question of my own. Then I realized, we raise different animals for different things. Cows are raised to eat, dogs are raised to be best friends, pigs are raised to eat, cats are raised to, well to be stuck - up.

I have often thought why not butcher horses for steaks and roasts and such. Then I found out that it has been done but because of their active life style the meat is not good. It is stringy and tough. You won't typically see someone galloping by on a cow.

The "find it disgusting" part is because we don't want to eat a pet any more than you want to eat anything that once lived.

I wish I could be a vegetarian but I was raised to eat meat. It is a part of who I am. I grew up on it, and I have children to care for and honestly, I don't believe I can just take it out of our diets as they need well balanced nutrition and I would not be able to switch to vegan foods on them and expect them to keep their same level of healthy balanced eating. They may not adapt to the new foods as easily and I would need to research a lot into alternative recipes and cooking styles which I find more stressful than anything at this point in my life. When they grow up, I may switch to being vegetarian, but in the mean time, I don't feel ready to do so, even though deep down inside, I do not like the idea of eating meat.

But it would be like saying to someone, "You no longer can have water", because it has been incorporated into my lifestyle since day 1, that a person needs fruit, meat and veg every day of their lives, along with water.

I live in a household where we have a freezer full of wild game. I've eaten rabbit, squirrel and deer for years. In America, it is uncommon to eat dog, cat, horse, etc, but in other parts of the world it is normal. We would think it is disgusting to eat a dog or cat because they are so integrated into our daily lives, not just pets but family members to most.

I know one reason is that dogs and cats are carnivorous animals, which are generally not suitable for consumption by humans.
Personally, I would eat rabbit any day, but dogs are smart and likeable and I would never harm one. Chickens and cows etc. are stupid and provide no purpose to me other than to be eaten

rabbits are very good and tasty . as for dogs and cats idk i suppose it has to do with culture bc a cat and rabbit are almost indistinguishable in taste and make up... or maybe because we have them as part of our families. as for dogs i dont know i dont like dogs it wouldnt bother me if people did eat them.. i would before i starved to death. how about you would you?

That is what they are for. I do not dislike or find it disgusting to eat animals. I find a boring diet of vegetables to be far more disgusting.

First we eat herbivores. Cats and dogs are carnivores. We do eat rabbits.

if we thought it was disgusting to eat them we wouldnt
