Why do people say blood tastes like copper?!

Question: Why do people say blood tastes like copper?
In a lot of books it says blood tastes like copper. You know when some one starts bleeding from there mouth the author describes it as "the taste of copper".Well why do people say that, you can't honestly say that unless you've tried copper before.

Idk but when ever I start bleeding "scab picking" sometimes whenever Im picking a scab it gets on my hand and my hand smells like copper

Blood has a metallic-like taste to it because of minerals like iron, zince etc... the easiest way to describe this is to say it's like copper because most people have put pennies in their mouth at some point when they were little children.

"you can't honestly say that unless you've tried copper before."

Or blood right?

it's because blood has a metallic sense, copper is the general taste and smell that comes from blood, and it can taste salty, weird as that all is.

There is in fact a very small amount of copper in the blood. From this I assume the authors got the idea for copper beings blood's taste.

I have a biology degree.

Because it does!

Blood tastes metallic, and copper is a metal. It also sounds better than saying "the taste of platinum" or "the taste of magnesium".

It tastes salty. That's all I know.

It does try it! Jk
