Is carrageenan safe to eat?!

Question: Is carrageenan safe to eat?
It's in the chocolate bars I eat (I buy a special kind because I'm allergic to milk), and it has some in it. I've been eating the chocolate bars for a few months now and nothing has happened to me and I have had no reaction to it. But I keep seeing online it says it's dangerous and fatal. Since this is the only chocolate bar I can find with no milk, wheat, peanuts, or any of the other allergies I have ( I have many ) I was wondering if it would be safe to eat it?

It's been used for thousands of years as a thickening agent and, as far as I could find out, some possibility of intestinal inflammation was the only down side that I could find. And even that was only if you ate it in sufficient quantities.

It's made from seaweed and seaweed is natural. You haven't dropped dead yet have you?

Edit:

So if you are allergic to milk you might have a sensitivity to carrageenan, so if you have a rumbly tummy, that maybe the cause.
