When and why did nuts get so expensive?!

Question: When and why did nuts get so expensive?
I wanted to buy some at the grocery store last night. I was shocked at the cost. Pistachio's were like $8 a pound and more. What happened? I remember getting them when I was a kid for a lot less. Can you get them anywhere for cheaper?

I don't know but it pisses me off because I love them and they are good for you! When I lived in Phoenix there was a store called Sprouts that had giant bins of rice, grain, oats, and all different kinds of nuts. It was pretty cheap to get a pound of almonds or walnuts or hazelnuts. But now that I'm in Boston they don't have any store like that here so I only buy them once in a while as a treat. Sucks.

Nuts are getting more expensive in spain due to the fact they're smaller now and as such, there is no longer enough to go around. This has been increasingly true since matadors are becoming less skilled and the bull is starting to win more often.

They got expensive after being kicked. It's not like u can just get new ones... *roll eyes*

I asked a lady(?) in a shop in San Diego the same question and she said if you don't want them don't buy them so I didn't.
