If you mean one of the cards that gets you a slightly better price than if you did not have the shoppers card. You can shop with out it, you could also go the customer service counter and complete an application for a card.
Quite often a cashier will scan their own card or a "store" card if you get to the register and say you don't have one. They would rather do that than lose a sale.
The cards do not cost anything. It is to the stores benefit that you have one, it is a way to track what you purchase.
You don't have to have a card, but since it's Kroger's policy to over price items and offer discounts for card holders, you may want to either get a free card and the 'discounts' or just shop somewhere else. I shop where the prices are good and you don't need a card for the prices. Kroger's a rip off anyway.
No you do not need a card. The store that have cards use them to track your purchases for markrting purposes.
sign up for the card when you go so you don't pay too much for the groceries.
You don't NEED a card but you get perks using it i believ( they always ask you if you would like one)
