most kids cereals have a ton of sugar

You will only get fat if you eat more calories than you burn. Most American breakfast cereal is loaded with sugar which is calorie dense. You can eat Froot Loops and not gain weight but you can't eat very much.

The bigger question (why is everyone hung up on weight anyway?) is: How does this food meet my nutritional needs? Assuming that you can do the math and know how many calories you burn in a day you can easily determine the amount of food required to meet that need. It's not rocket science to stay thin. The difficult part is preparing a proper meal plan that will provide all of the nutrients your body needs to be healthy.

Froot Loops cereal doesn't exactly fill the role of providing your body with nutrients. Added or 'enriched' vitamins and minerals are often in forms not easily absorbed by the body and simply pass through anyway.

You'd be better off eating a bowl of fresh oatmeal with some walnuts and honey for breakfast. I sometimes cut up an apple and saute it in a pan with some cinnamon and add that to my walnut oatmeal in the morning.

Alternatively, an egg white omelet (or scrambled) with a side of fresh fruit and a slice of whole grain toast is an easy to make (and clean up) breakfast that tastes great and will give your body everything it needs.

Simple rules to follow: If it has "high fructose", "partially hydrogenated" or "enriched" in any of the ingredients it's probably not very nutritious.

Good luck on making a lifestyle change that will provide permanent benefits! Skip the 'diet'.

Froot Loops are rings of colored sugar, basically the worst junk food money can buy.
If you want a nice cereal to snack on that is not fattening try regular Cherrios. You can dust them with icing sugar to add some sweet and still be far away from the sugar content of the loops.
Icing sugar is sugar but is less hard core than standard sugar, and because it is fine as dust you can use less and still get your fix.

yes - first they are full of sugar, then they are full of processed chemicals to give them the fruit taste - there are no real fruits in them.
