no it does not gross me out.
Because it was printed does not mean every word in that book is gospel.
There is also shock value to help sell the books.
You can bet he used the worst of the worst to feature in his book because it would be what sells books.
I grew up helping my parents butcher our own meat and killing an animal is killing an animal.
It is messy business but has been done since time began to feed the human race.
It is part of the circle of life.

Great book. It didn't gross me out so much as it made me really question how my choices affect our society and labor conditions. Do I really want to support brutal corporate practices/ illegal immigration/ un-natural, inefficient, and unhealthy agriculture?

I guess I always thought that meat was full of guts and bacteria and a little risk. So that part didn't really impact me very much.

The biggest thing for me is that I wish we had alternatives to corn fed beef. When I lived in South America, all of the beef was grass fed. And not only is it safer and healthier, but I can tell you that it tastes way better. And it was actually cheaper, yet the people who produced it probably had a better quality of life than the average worker in an American slaughterhouse or feed lot. It's all about how the system is set up with politics and corporate power.

I've read Fast Food Nation, and it's not even close to as gross as reading The Jungle. If you ever get a chance to read it, you will always question the conditions of meatpacking plants and wonder what's in your sausages.

I have never read the book, I can only imagine how disgusting it is.
