Why do oat cereals have so much fat?!

Question: Why do oat cereals have so much fat?
Clusters, Ready break, 'Oat clusters and raisins' all these kind of cereals have so much fat in them.
I thought oats were healthy?

Answers:

Actually, fat isn't all that bad.

It's the saturated fats one needs to be concerned about, as they can clog up your arteries.
Plain oats contain mostly unsaturated fats, which are considered more "healthy".
And keep in mind, for every 100gms of plain oats (which is enough to keep you feeling full for at least a few hours), there's just 6 gms of total fat. That doesn't seem that unhealthy to me.

Here's an interesting fact:
The reason why oats "stick to your ribs" is because they contain dietary fibre, including beta-glucan, which helps to make you feel fuller for longer.
Here's a more detailed explanation from http://www.eatmoreoats.com/health.html
"As the beta-glucan in the soluble fiber of oats is digested, it forms a gel, which causes the viscosity of the contents of the stomach and small intestine to be increased. This in turn slows down digestion and prolongs the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream. This means dramatic changes in blood sugar levels are avoided."

Oats are also low in sugar, low in sodium & contain protein.

Sone of the cereal brands you meantioned most probably have added processed sugars, sodium and fats, to add flavour.
For example
1 serving (30g) of Uncle Tobys Traditional oats - 114 calories, 2.6gms total fat, 0.5gms saturated fat, 0.3gms sugar, 3 gms sodium
1 serving (50g) of Sanitarium Oat Clusters, Vanilla & Almond - 211 calories, 5.4gms total fat, 1.1 saturated fat, 9.6gms sugar, 175gms sodium

For a healthier breakfast option, eat plain oats with low-fat dairy (for additional protein) and fruit (for more fibre and natural sugars for flavour).

I regulary eat cooked oats for breakfast & http://www.calorieking.com.au/today/
