Can I ship a grapefruit?!

Question: Can I ship a grapefruit?
I live in Missouri and I want to send my friend who lives in Minnesota a grapefruit, as a joke. I want to just put stamps on it and not put it in a box or anything. Is this possible? and how many stamps do you think I need? I was also wondering if it isn't ok to send perishable items, so would something like a pumpkin be better? Or does anyone have any other ideas? I would really appreciate it!

If it fits it ships.

Send him/her a Durian. Tell them it's magical. When they cut it open, it'll smell terrible. Great prank.
I think you'll have to send it in a box...it's kinda big.
From wikipedia: "The smell evokes reactions from deep appreciation to intense disgust, and has been described variously as almonds, rotten onions, turpentine and gym socks."

:P have fun!

Actually, I doubt you can put stamps on a grapefruit and mail it.
