They are very mild. We always dredge them in an egg batter and then fry them. Sprinkle with Parmesean Cheese. If you are very careful when taking out the stamens and leave the bottom intact, you can stuff them and then bake them or fry them.
I grew up eating them and they are awesome. I have noticed that some locals markets carry them in season the last couple of years.
If you manage to buy them in season, which is early May/ June here, they are a great accompaniment to a grilled veg. medley with red peppers and onions. Other than that, they suck.
Fantastic in Batter,sprinkle lemon juice on them,First tried them like that in Greece ,wonderful.
