tiny splinters in my bacon, what are they?!

Question: Tiny splinters in my bacon, what are they?
I was about to make some bacon when I saw these tiny black splinters woven in the upper part of the bacon fat. I cut the portion out and I still don't know what it is or why splinters would get inside a pig anyway...is it natural??should I not eat the bacon??!
