I would get small paper holders, like the small cupcake papers or you can get smaller ones that are used for candy. Check craft stores that carry cake decorating supplies or a kitchen store that has a full line of supplies. A party Store might have them as well.
For a box you can get boxes that you can decorate at a party store as well. Or go to a carry out chinese restaurant and ask them for one of the boxes with the little metal handle on it. I think that would be cute as a container. Take the handle off and open up the box and glue a wrapping paper on it then reassemble it putting the wire handle back on.

Wilton makes candy cups that are like tiny cupcake liners.
Wilton is sold in Walmart, Micheal's, Hobby Lobby, and Baker's Supply Shops. Get a box that is the right depth and diameter. Maybe at the dollar store, ask a bakery or See's Candy if you can buy one from them. You might try a cigar shop. They often sell the empty wooden boxes. I have done this three times this year. I paid 5 to 10 dollars depending on how intricate they are. It doesn't even have to be a box. Try a tin or basket. You can make your own box if you are crafty. Decorate the container any way you like. You can line your container with tissue paper, cellophane, foil, paper dolly, etc, all available at the dollar store. This year I made cookies candies and breads for family and friends. I bought pretty plates at the dollar store and thrift store. These were fairly large so I opened a roll of cellophane, sat the dish in the center, gathered the cellophane up to the center of the plate close down to the goodies, and gave it a twist. Then I tied it tight with a piece of uncurled curling ribbon. Next I curled a number of pieces of the ribbon, gathered them in the center an tied them on with the uncurled ribbon. Next I tied on an ornament, with a removable name tag on the back and curled that uncurled ribbon. This worked very well and the goodies stayed in place even with being driven around in the car. You can get all of the things I used at a dollar store, sometimes in the wedding area you can even get the candy cups. Everyone really enjoys the time effort and love that goes into something you make just for them. They are lucky to have such a nice friend. Hope this helps and have fun.

I packaged mine in mini muffin cups. They now come in "designer" patterns so they are really cute. Then I just put them all in a decorative plastic tupperware that you can find at wal-mart. Then just tie the whole thing with a ribbon!
