It's ultimately up to you, but if you expose your child to nuts (peanut butter) or seafood (clam chowder) too soon, it can cause them to be more prone to these types of allergies later in life. I doubt he's crying because of an allergy, but maybe the seasoning or something else in the food was too much for his delicate digestive system. He might have painful gas or indigestion, which is hurting his stomach and making him cry.

This is a kind of odd question for many reasons. I didn't feed my baby shellfish for the first year. Also, I didn't even feed him regular cow's milk for the first year. Also, I didn't feed him anything he might choke on (he didn't have teeth at that age) including large chunks. Was it Manhattan or New England clam chowder? One is tomato based and the other milk based. Do you know what the ingredients were? If it were a true allergy he would have had hives within the first few minutes to within 45 minutes or so of eating the food. Yet, he might have been intolerant to some ingredients. It is very common for babies and people in general to react to chemicals in food with mood problems. Perhaps your baby responded poorly to a preservative in there. The mood problem could be totally unrelated, but if it keeps up tomorrow, you should definitely call your pediatrician.
