WHERE did the name "Marshmallow" come from?!

Question: WHERE did the name "Marshmallow" come from?
My daughter asked my this morning, how the name marshmallow came to be. I told her it came from the old days, when people where skipping through the marsh, and stepped on these squishy things they called "mallows", and went home and tried creating the mallows using whipped sugar - - - -

OK, well, after my daughter was done laughing like crazy, she said "OK Mom, what's the REAL answer"?

I seriously have no idea. Does anyone out there KNOW?

I dont know but I like your version so I will use that if anyone asks me from now on!!

Egypt, originally. They invented them around 2000 BC. They were first made from the mallow plant (which grows in marshes, hence the name). Today, most people use gelatin, instead.
