Question: Do I eat too much yogurt?
I have about 700g a day. Is that OK?

If you do not develop any uncomfortable symptoms like diarrhea or headache and etc, if its all natural low-fat and non-flavored yogurt then it should be fine.

The amount of calories in yogurt can be anywhere from around 100-200 calories and amounts of sodium, sugars, carbs, fats, protein, etc can also vary greatly based on the ingredients used, flavor, and brand so do watch out for these.

Do keep a balance diet and eat everything moderately would be best.



If my math is right, that means you're eating almost 25 ounces of yogurt every day?!?!? That's a huge amount, getting close to a quart per day.

You don't say which brand and specific line of "yogurt" you're eating so the calories you're taking in could vary a lot, but just as some guidelines check out this site for the one you're eating:

.....Dannon Plain Yogurt is 80 calories for 6 ounces = 320 calories per day
.....most regular yogurts (usually called "LowFat") that have been flavored (and sweetened) are about 200 calories for 6 oz, or even more = 800 calories per day, or more
(...most "Lite" yogurts have fewer calories, but they also have artificial sweeteners which research has found makes people more likely to eat more of the food, and to actually gain weight because of the way the body recognizes the artificial sweeteners)

And even if the yogurt were low-calorie, that doesn't mean it's also low-fat and certainly not low sugar.
For example, an 8 oz portion of Dannon's Lowfat fruit-on-the-bottom yogurt has 6 teaspoons of added sugar which is (6 x 15) 90 calories just for the sugar...multiply that by 3 times a day like you are and you come up with 270 calories (just for the sugar, not for the whole serving of yogurt).

If you buy "plain" yogurt (or make it yourself), you will have fewer calories depending on the amount of fat contained in the type of milk used (fullfat, lowfat, non-fat, some cream like some Greek-style yogurts), but you won't have any *added* sugar. The yogurt will still contain the sugar that's naturally present in milk (called lactose) but there will be less of it since the milk has been fermented.
Fermentation makes the milk taste more sour though, and most people don't like to eat yogurt that way so they add sugar or honey, etc. (It's possible to ferment out all of the lactose, but that has to be done with making yogurt yourself and fermenting for a full 24 hrs...most commercial yogurts are fermented for only 4 hrs to preserve shelf life.)

So I'd say that (again, if my math is right and you're eating almost a quart of yogurt a day, every day), that's definitely too much and you're probably also not getting the vitamins/minerals/fiber/etc that you should be getting to have a balanced and healthy diet.

Also, be aware that some products calling themselves "yogurt" are basically just pudding because the live cultures they started with (and that are so good for your gut) have been killed at the end of processing by using too high a heat (to get certain characteristics). That's pretty expensive pudding.



This would sound a little on the high side for a balanced diet.

Whilst yoghurt is great for you, it's the same with all foods - everything in moderation! No single food or foodgroup should form a huge part of your diet.

If you don't eat that much then yea I guess it is okay because yogurt is very healthy for you and tasty as well!
