it's so hard to fit meat into my diet because we are on a budget?!

Question: It's so hard to fit meat into my diet because we are on a budget?
Im 8 weeks pregnant and i know that meats such as, pork tenderloin, ground beef, chicken, beef, white meat chicken, & chicken breasts all provide a good source of vitamin B12, iron, choline, & protein, which are all essentials for a healthy diet when pregnant!
We are on a major budget and it is so hard to shop for meats along with the necessary ingridients to cook the meat (depending on the dish i want to make) when we're on a budget as strict as ours.
when we're at the grocery store we usually go for fruits, veggies, pastas, nuts, raisins, oats, & things of that sort. We always tend to skip the meat section because everything is sooo expensive!
what so you suggest we do? & next time we have the money to purchase some meats, what recipes do you suggest i make?
:) Thank you sooo much!! all answers are much appreciated!

If you are on a budget you should take a look at the weekly ads that the various markets in your area send out or look on line. I don't know where you live but here in S California most new sales ads start Wed - Tue, I believe, so you should buy what is on sale. Some times you can by meat and fish, away from the fresh thawed butcher counter. Several of the companies that sell meat/fish in the meat counter area also sell a version in the frozen section, for example, you can by ground turkey, beef in a tube (its all the same, just different packaging). You can also usually by fish in individual frozen packages. Some stores, like Von's, by sell meat that has reached it's "sell by date" are put in a clearance section at a 30 to 50% discount, and the meat/fish is still good for several days later or you can freeze yourself for future use. Since you are on a budget, you should also not make meet the primary ingredient like most recipes call for, you can bulk up the recipe with other vitamin rich things like (beans, mushrooms, tofu....). Also, have you checked out the canned meats section.

I suggest you find out about programs available to pregnant women who don't have enough money to eat properly. Maybe your relatives could help you out. Eggs are usually affordable but when I was pregnant they made me sick. Happy pushing.
