I think in general the media has a positive effect on food and how we think of it.

It can be very helpful to inform us on important food issues such as GM, E numbers, disappearing bees etc. Celebrity chefs and food magazines can give us new ideas, or show us something new and suggest how to cook it.

But the answer to your question also depends on the viewer or reader and whether they choose to become more knowledgeable about the subject or just read the headlines.

Of all the things you listed I think adverts has a bad effect on food. They are often misleading,
or don't talk in detail about the product. Some Celebrity chefs endorse every product they can lay their hands on just to cash in on the celebrity status....rather than just endorse a product that be proud to be connected with. But in general we consumers of Britain are better cooks, better informed and more passionate about the food we eat than in any time in my life....and that has to be a good thing
