Is organic really worth the investment?!

Question: Is organic really worth the investment?
Some things I'll buy organic simply for apparently h igher nutrition value like eggs,....I feel safer with organic milk....but does EVERY LAST THING have to be organic? Is it really that big of a deal? I don't even notice a taste diference between the fruits/veggies,...and not sure if meats are worthwhile either especially if you don't eat meat all the time.

What's a more realistic way of looking at things?

Answers:

Organic farmers spend a lot of money to become certified organic. They must abide by very strict rules and keep up with growing/raising their crop/animals to a very strict regimen. Their soil must pass muster, the animals can only be fed certain things and again - it's expensive and this has go on for several years and pass every test. The money spent on this is passed on to the consumer.
I think many farmers truly believe in organic, others I think see big profit.
It's not really a taste issue but rather a 'how it's grown' issue.
Fruit and vegetables should be purchased seasonally for the best flavor.
Organic does not mean no pesticides - that is a myth. Many of the same chemicals and pesticides used by traditional farmers are used by organic farmers.
Neither farmer want so spend a lot of money keeping pests off their crops or animals and both want the chemical to be as less invasive as possible. Many of these pesticides are plant based themselves.
Growing up with farmers and working in the ag business and knowing things from the 'back door' it would take a lot to make me think organic is better.

It doesn't have to be an all or nothing deal, some foods are more contaminated, they're referred to as "the dirty dozen". They are the ones you should be most concerned about eating organic.

Peaches
Apples
Sweet Bell Peppers
Celery
Nectarines
Strawberries
Cherries
Pears
Grapes (Imported)
Spinach
Lettuce
Potatoes

Least contaminated, pretty much ok to eat non-organic:

Onions
Avocado
Sweet Corn (Frozen)
Pineapples
Mango
Asparagus
Sweet Peas (Frozen)
Kiwi Fruit
Bananas
Cabbage
Broccoli
Papaya
