is MSG safe for people?!

Question: Is MSG safe for people?
yes i know i should go research. i have a bit. too many conflicting articles and such.

like on one page
: "Monosodium glutamate is one of the most extensively studied food ingredients in our food supply. Hundreds of studies and numerous scientific evaluations have concluded that monosodium glutamate provides a safe and useful taste enhancer for foods."

http://www.eufic.org/article/en/artid/mo…

and "In the 2004 version of his book On Food and Cooking, food scientist Harold McGee states that "[after many studies], toxicologists have concluded that MSG is a harmless ingredient for most people, even in large amounts."[31]"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monosodium_…

anyways. so i guess msg is okay? im not allergice. and im chinese. not that it matters.

the place i live in, MSG is to enhance the food taste.
usually added in soups and most dishes.

i wont say it's good.

after eating food that are with MSG, most people will feel thirsty and wants to drink more water. which i think it's not really good.

take-away food normally add them to enchance their falvours. while if u are cooking at home, try not to add them.

eating everything in moderation is good. :)

like everything. it is OK in measured doses . so if you eat normally then overall intake should be within recommended safe limits. it is when we intake an excess that it start to become an issue.
even milk foe example if drunk to extreme ( say 3-4 pints a day) will give serious and potentially fatal results over time.
essentially we are talking about salt. this is both a naturally and man made substance. most folk daily intake is too much due to refined foods . often added as a 'flavour enhancer' this is in reality not so much for 'flavour' as simply a flavour and food 'PRESERVER' . sort of a twist on words so you think it there to make you enjoyment of that food more pleasant but in reality 90% of it is there to maintain saleability and profits.

Who funded those studies? You'll find out that eating anything that has been engineered will definitively have an impact on your health. We weren't designed to digest large amounts of randomly placed organic molecules. Our enzymes evolved along with the food we chose to eat, and we decided to eat those foods because they worked with our enzymes.
So going out of our way to make crap to simulate that the food you just ate was high in protein, seems very ridiculous and downright crazy.

<<<<<<MSG was made to fool you into enjoying nutritionally devoid (crap) food.>>>>>>

internets and common sense.

It's a common thing that people are intolerant to. If you get headaches etc you could try cutting it out.

There is naturally occuring MSG in some vegies like peas for example, but not in the same high amounts as you'd find in foods where it is added.

If it was enough evidence to say enough people were badly affected by it they would have to remove it from foods. So far, they have only banned colours (that is authorities in Australia and Europe). That doesn't mean it's not bad though.

I think the jury is still out on this one - that is, no one really knows enough to say either way.

Its safe, but not good. It occurs naturally in tomatos.

The science is clear. The safety of monosodium glutamate depends on an intact blood brain barrier. This substance is injected into infant mice so that they will become fat. These treated mice will overeat and become obese over time. It's ideal for some lab experiments. Treated mice have significant and frequent brain lesions, cancers, and neurological problems. So do many people.

There is no standard to limit the quantity of MSG in foods within the US. You see MSG was approved through political pressure applied by Dick Cheney. It is "generally regarded as safe" which means it is approved without any testing. The tests that have been run are scary.

Avoid fast food joints and processed foods. The food industry sells MSG laced foods because cheap low-quality foods suddenly become delicious and addictive when MSG is added.

It's finger lickin' good. KFC is one of the worst offenders out there.
