Is it safe to microwave styrofoam cups?!

Question: Is it safe to microwave styrofoam cups?
at work we don't have any mugs or hot water so the only way to drinktea is by microwaving water in styrofoam cups....butis is safe healthwise?

Answers:

Not really. Styrofoam releases toxic gas when heated in a microwave. Now, how toxic the gas is and the amounts I am unsure of. It won't kill you but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis. You should get an electric tea kettle and leave it at work.

There is no such thing as a Styrofoam cup. Dow Corning makes styrofoam and they do not make cups, plates, or coolers. They do not allow anyone to use their product to make cups out of it.

I wouldn't use that method. Take your own ceramic mug, or get one of these: http://www.nextag.com/electric-hot-pot-w…
